June 30 — On the weekend state media reported on a speech given by Xi Jinping at a ceremony on Saturday marking the 60th anniversary of the Panchsheel Treaty between China and India, the substance of which are the ‘Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence’. Visiting Myanmar President U Thein Sein and Indian Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari also participated and delivered speeches. Xi repeated his assertion, first made in May this year, that there is “no gene for invasion or hegemony” in Chinese people’s blood.
This morning, the story was the top article on the People’s Daily website, Baidu News, Netease News and Xinhua’s English language website, but placed in an unprominent position on Xinhua’s Chinese site.
