The front page of the Beijing Morning Post reports today that at a meeting of the Central Committee of the Politburo convened on December 30, it was decided to establish the Central Leading Group for Comprehensively Deepening Reform (中央全面深化改革领导小组) – which was mooted in the reform package announced in the wake of the Third Plenum – and that Xi Jinping was appointed head of the new group. The group will be tasked with a host of overall reform management tasks, which include managing the planning and implementation of comprehensive reforms, overall coordination and advancement of the reforms, overall economic planning, “cultural organization”, “systemic organization”, and “ecological civilization organization”.
The meeting, which was presided over by Xi himself, listened to a presentation of the 2013 work report of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection as well as of plans for ensuring clean government and anti-corruption work in 2014; and approved new regulations for the selection and appointment of leading cadres.
