The Beijing government has announced that Beijing will replace the temporary residence permit system with the residence permit system. The public services that residence permit holders receive will be upgraded according to the length of time they stay in Beijing. These public services will include housing and car purchases.
Zhou Jidong, a member of the Beijing Municipal Chinese People’s Political Consultative Committee, noted that the new residence permit will be a better way to manage the residential population but in itself cannot completely solve the problem of population migration. With the development of the high-end service industry, the low-end market will be squeezed, which is reflected in higher land prices and other resources.
